Within the framework of the TRAINPOST distance-learning programme, which is based on a simpler and more user-friendly training approach, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) offers the participant trainees, in postal operations training field, several important courses in the programme. One of them is dealing with UPU Standards. This course is made up of fore modules.

General Aims:
To enable the Postal operators, Governments and other stakeholders
          (i) to recognize the usefulness of UPU standards in improving the quality and
          (ii) to participate in the development of standards and their wider usage.

Target Population :

(i) Postal Managers working in International mail operations and Technical departments
(ii) IT Companies, Mail handling organizations such as Airlines, and Suppliers that work with Postal operators
(iii) Partners of Posts including various International Organizations

NOTE  : The learner may choose the language in which to follow the courses (Arabic, English or French), via the relevant home page.

 
 
 
   
  Module 1 : Introduction to UPU Standards
   

At the end of this module, the trainees will be able to explain:
   - What are UPU Standards and why are they necessary?
   - Relationship between UPU Standards and UPU Regulations
   - Relationship between UPU Standards and International Standards
   - The two families of UPU Standards; Technical Standards and EDI Messaging Standards
   - UPU Code lists that complement the UPU Standards

  Module 2 : The Process of Standardization
   

At the end of this module, the trainees will be able to explain:
   - The role and composition of the UPU Standards Board
   - The role of working groups in the development of standards
   - Cooperation between UPU Standards Board and other International standardization bodies as well as business partners
   - The six stages in the process of Standardization

  Module 3 : The Publication of Standards
    At the end of this module, the trainees will be able to explain:
   - Different types of publications on UPU Standards
   - Various options available for ordering UPU Publications containing Standards
   - Numbering, versioning and history of Standard documents
   - Structure of the content in UPU Standard documents
   - Details of documents pertaining to Standards available on UPU Website
  Module 4 : Key UPU Standards
    At the end of this module, the trainees will be able to explain:
   - Standard S10 that defines the mail item identifier
   - Standard S47 that defines the format of receptacle labels
   - EDI message EMSEVT, a message for exchanging mail item tracking events
   - Code list 108 that gives the list of IMPCs (International Mail Processing Centers) in the world.
